We Need You!

Nuneaton and Bedworth Sports Forum is an independent organisation that consists of Volunteers that help support sports clubs and organisations within the Borough.

The Forum is financially supported by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to administer a range of sporting bursaries, training opportunities and grants to help support and further develop local sports clubs.

Secretary Required

The Forum is looking for a Volunteer to undertake the secretary’s role, who has a passion for sport, with good organisation skills and wants to help the Forum further enhance sports participation and provision in the Borough.

This crucial position will help administer the sports forums meetings and ensure that technology is utilised to further promote the forums objectives.

The post is voluntary, with expenses reimbursed, to be negotiated with successful candidate.

The Sports Forum is an independent organisation, which is supported by the Borough Council through an annual revenue grant. Nuneaton & Bedworth Leisure Trust supports the forum through Officer input and advice.

The Sports Forum provides the following opportunities and services to the local sporting community:-

The Annual Sports Scholarships & Sports Personality Awards

  • Small grants for local sports people and sporting groups
  • Advice, Information & Advocacy
  • Sports Scholarships & Sports Personality Awards

Each year the Sports Forum runs these exciting awards in partnership with the Borough Council and Nuneaton & Bedworth Leisure Trust.
Application/nomination forms are normally available at Leisure Centres, Libraries, and Council offices from November each year with the closing date being early in January and the presentation evening in March each year.

Categories available each year include:Sports Scholarship Awards

  • Young Persons Award - six grants of £150 are available to assist talented young people further develop their sporting careers at regional, national or international levels.
  • Club award - up to £300 is available to assist local clubs develop their structure or enhance the development of their sport in the local area.

Sports Personality Awards

  • Senior Sports Personality
  • Junior Sports Personality
  • Services to Sport Award (for local people who have made a significant contribution to sport within the Borough as a volunteer)
  • The Club Administrator Award (for backroom volunteers who have worked to the special benefit of local clubs during the past year)
  • The Senior Team Award
  • The Junior Team Award
  • The Mayors Trophy - for the Disabled Sports Personality of the year
  • The Special Services to Sport Award (for volunteers from outside the Borough who have made a significant contribution to sport within the Borough)

Small Grants for Local Sports People and Sporting Groups

The Sports Forum also offers a number of grant programs aimed at providing much needed resources through the year to help local clubs and sports people.

The following types of grant are available:-

  • Club start up grants
  • Trophy grants
  • Personal sporting development grants (for sports people & coaches)
  • Club development grants

Applications for these are welcomed throughout the year and forms should be returned to the Forums secretary.

Advice, Information & Advocacy
The Sports Forum has a very important function in acting as a representative body for the voluntary sector of sport within Nuneaton & Bedworth, this involves it being a key consultee on a wide range of leisure issues such as:

  • Applications for funding from various grant providers
  • Local & regional strategic planning matters for leisure
  • Local sports development initiatives

The Forum also has considerable knowledge and experience, which it is able to draw upon and due to this, is able to give advice on a wide range of sports, related topics. Even if the advice you need is not available from within the Forum, it will probably be able to refer you to someone who can help.
