Walking is set to play a bigger role in creating a healthier nation. Described by health experts as 'almost perfect exercise', walking requires no equipment or expense and is the ideal way for most people to become more active.
'Walking the way to Health' Initiative (WHI) aims to get more people walking in their own communities, especially those who take little exercise or live in areas of poor health.
Working in Partnership the Nuneaton & Bedworth Leisure Trust and The Countryside Agency will be increasing the amount of information available on walking within the Borough. We currently have six guided walks throughout the week in Nuneaton and Bedworth, with plans to increase that number each year. We will also be working to increase the number of volunteer walk leaders from local communities to lead walks in their neighbourhoods.
Did you know...?
In March 2004 NBLT's Walking for Health Scheme was awarded a "3 Heart" award from the national Walking the Way to Health Initiative. This quality mark, recognised by the British Heart Foundation, recognises the Nuneaton and Bedworth Scheme for having qualified Walk Leaders, safe walking routes, linking in with health professionals and providing social activities.
Come Out and Join Us! Our FREE walks go weekly throughout the year. We cater for all walking abilities and help you do whatever you can. Just turn up on the day, introduce yourself to a walk leader, fill out a simple health check questionnaire and then you can walk with us!
