NBLT works in close partnership with local Schools, Colleges and Institutes to provide work placements for students and adults. It also supports the aims of Connexions Direct by providing a partnership approach to work based opportunities and training for young people and supporting effective skills development by offering Work Experience opportunities.

The Aim

The aim of Work Experience is to give students/adults experience of the working environment and an opportunity to find out about the world of work, contributing to learning.
Work Experience helps NBLT by:

• Improving the quality of young people entering the Leisure industry
• Attracting school leavers to fill NBLT vacancies
• Enhancing its profile in the community
• Developing the management skills of its employees involved in Work Experience.

The Placements Available

NBLT currently offers five different locations where students may be placed, these are:

• Pingles Leisure Centre
• Bedworth Leisure Centre
• Etone Sports Centre
• Jubilee Sports Centre
• Sports Development

The Process

Each location can only take one student at any one time and these placements will, where possible, be fairly distributed among all the local schools. Work Experience is part of the student's education and as such is unpaid.

NBLT's Human Resources Section will liase directly with the local schools with regards to placements for 14 & 15 year olds. Enquiries for Work Experience placements for students (over 16 years) or adults should be made directly to the place of interest.

Work Experience will

• Enhance students' general education
• Widen practical understanding of the world of work
• Help develop self-confidence
• Help develop key skills: communication, information technology, problem solving and managing your own learning
• Improve interpersonal skills
• Help students make more informed career choices
• Give students an understanding of the qualities and qualifications needed
• Give students evidence to include in their National Record of Achievement
