 Youth Contact Team

Project Details

The Youth Contact Team project commenced in January 2004 and has seen some very positive results.

The aims of the project are to research and then engage with youths that are causing the quality of life within local communities to be adversely affected. It is hoped that early intervention with young people in the targeted communities will assist in combating the rise in anti-social behaviour.

Residents, Ward Councillors, internal service units and the Police may request the assistance of the Youth Contact Team by reporting incidences directly to the Team. They will identify young people causing 'Nuisance Behaviour' and will organise to meet with them to discuss  individuals/groups needs and put a plan into place. This may incorporate sign posting young people to a variety of organisations/agencies or forming a group to ascertain further funding for localised activities.  Exit strategies are built in to ensure that the young people concerned modify their behaviour within their community.

The Youth Contact Team will aim to engage young people during evenings and weekends and especially during school holiday periods when 'Nuisance Behaviour' occurs. The Team will have the ability to respond rapidly to neighbourhood concerns, resulting in quick results.

This project assists in decreasing the 'Fear of Crime' by reacting quickly to situations and will monitor behaviour patterns and will feed back the positive results to the community.

Partnership links have made with agencies to ensure synergy across the services. Strategically this project fits into the Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council's Community Plan, Crime & Disorder Strategy and Sport & Recreation Plan.
